Bike-centric website Prolly Is Not Probably puts us onto an article from Wired which discusses the relationship of technology and bike messengers. However, as much as data grows, the ability to quickly transfer terabytes of data have yet to catch up,…

Today I saw a girl crying on the 6 train.
It wasn’t the hysterical, “look at me” crying, but quiet and blotchy, hunched and alone. Her eyes were red and raw and she had a tissue but made no sound. The grief seemed to come in waves, the way it does when something monumental has happened and you forget, then remember, then forget, then remember.
The train was just full enough...

Don't be a creep.
I did it I did it, I did it!
Teacher would be so proud.
Last night some idiot started harassing me as I was walking on W 36th.
Now, usually I pick between a few modes: “Kristen is annoyed” means I ignore/pretend I don’t notice/turn up my music. “Kristen is not having a good day” means The Evil Eye and a longer-than-necessary,-you-numskull stare. “Kristen...

NYT: the MTA's last few subway operators →
A lovely little article about the subway operators who work in the elevator-reliant north Manhattan stations. I don’t think I’d want to ride 140 feet in an unmanned MTA elevator either.

I was talking to a girl in class and she said, and I quote, “Yeah, Daniel Jackson is everyone’s favorite, but it’s too bad that Michael Shanks kind of seems like a tool. I think it happened when he started working out with Teal’c, I mean, Christopher Judge.”

opentransportation:
Georgia Bullen uploaded the topics from TransportationCamp West into IBM’s Many Eyes data viz platform. Here’s a one minute wordle I made with the data. Will be interesting to compare East and West —
Update: here’s a comparison of East and West. Thoughts?
East
West
If (like me) you’re skeptical of the values of wordles, go visualize it better: east, west.

Bushwick is officially gentrified
Today I saw two different mid-twenties white girls running (in shorts and wearing headbands), on Graham Ave, aka “The Avenue of Puerto Rico.” Yep.

subwayart:
Street art duo Os Gemeos were tasked with painting the ticket booth for MOCA’s Art in the Streets exhibition a couple weeks ago. After painting the booth, they decided to take their mission a step further and build a miniature subway car sculpture to place on top of it.
